In the face of global warming, many individuals and professionals are wondering about new thermal insulation options. Indeed, when outside temperatures rise above 40 degrees Celsius in summer, it becomes stifling to stay at home. Among the most popular new solutions, perhaps you've heard about the possibility of painting the roof of your home white? Whether you have a flat or tiled roof, there are suitable white paints available. These effectively reduce the impact of the sun's rays and, by extension, the temperature of your home. However, you'll need permission from your local council before you can start work.
What is reflective paint?
Reflective paint is a material that has been used in France for some years now. It originated in the United States, and more specifically in New York. Although it is best known for its use with EPDM membranes on flat roofs, it is also used on tiled roofs.
In the roofing sector, this technology is acclaimed for its ease of application and energy efficiency. This white roofing paint is used as a reflective surface: its composition enables it to reflect the effects of the sun's rays.
What are the advantages of white roof tile paint?
When using reflective paint (also known as "cool roof"), the main aim is to reduce a building's interior temperature.
In fact, painting your roof white can significantly optimize the temperature of your home in the event of extreme heat or a heatwave. A difference of up to 10 degrees can be observed inside the home thanks to the use of this product. This feat is made possible by the reflectivity coefficient of these paints, which can be as high as 95%.
The white paint is also extremely durable. Thanks to the Top Coat finish applied to CovaTherm reflective paint, your heat protection solution can be effective for up to 20 years.

What authorizations do I need to start work?
Before you can make any changes to your roof, you need to obtain the necessary permits. The regulations in force may vary according to the commune or district in your town. To find out more, consult your local urban development plan (Plan Local d'Urbanisme or PLU). This can be obtained by contacting your local town hall.
If your PLU allows you to change the color of your roof, you'll need to submit a Déclaration Préalable de travaux (DP). In France, a Déclaration Préalable is required for any work that changes the external appearance of your building. So if you want to paint your roof white, you'll need to fill out this document.
